| Barry Scott: A MLK Jr. Tribute 7:30 PM
Townsend Center
A gunshot is heard, followed by rapid footsteps and frantic yelling. It is April 4, 1968, and the hero of the civil rights movement is lying on the balcony of the Lorraine Hotel in Memphis. Crusades and marches from his past rise up along with prominent figures such as Ralph Abernathy, Andrew Young, Sheriff Bull Conner, Madgar Evers and George Wallace. Actor, writer, and historian Barry Scott mesmerizes audiences with his one man play, Ain’t Got Long to Stay Here.
The Mobile Press Register declared, “Barry Scott’s portrayal of King is superb. The resemblance of pitch, cadence, dynamic emphasis and hypnotic delivery is uncanny.” An authority on the life and works of Dr. King, Scott teaches a new generation about one of America’s most violent yet inspiring times, and about the man who touched the heart of his country.
This one-man play will mesmerize and move you. Join us at the Townsend Center on February 9, 2012 at 7:30pm. Tickets are $15 for adults, $14 for seniors and $8 for children. Call 678-839-4722 or order online at www.townsendcenter.org.
