The Music of Hank Williams
6:00 PM - 8:00 PM

“The Music of Hank Williams,” a program featuring songs by Hank Williams and commentary on his life and music, will be presented Saturday, December 8, at UWG's Ingram Library.  Showtime is 6:00 p.m.  This event and the reception afterwards are free and open to the public with easily-accessible parking provided.

Carrollton-based country-folk band Americana Express will perform the songs of Hank Williams with an introduction by Dr. Steve Goodson, Professor of History, University of West Georgia.  Goodson is co-author of the upcoming book "The Hank Williams Reader," to be published by Oxford University Press.

More than sixty years after his death, Hank Williams is an iconic figure in American music.  Born in Mount Olive, Alabama, in 1923, Williams turned a life of struggle and rejection into songs that resonated with the public.  Widely considered country music's first superstar, Williams songs like "Your Cheatin' Heart," "Cold, Cold Heart," and "Hey Good Lookin'" are among the most revered in American music.  His untimely death in 1953, at age 29, sealed his legendary status.

"
The Music of Hank Williams” is sponsored by Ingram Library’s Penelope Melson Society and is endorsed by the Smithsonian Institution as part of its "New Harmonies: Celebrating American Roots Music" traveling exhibition tour.

The reception will feature traditional Southern fare including jambalaya, chicken tenders, biscuits, fried green tomato and pimento cheese sliders, pecan pralines, and white chocolate bread pudding.
