Live Art: Manhattan Transfer
8:00 PM - 10:00 PM

Live Art presents The Manhattan Transfer at UWG's Townsend Center for the Performing Arts. In 1974, the group began performing regularly throughout New York. By the end of the year, they were the number one live attraction in NYC. In 1981, they became the first group ever to win Grammy Awards in both Pop and Jazz categories in the same year.

In 1982 and 1983, the group won consecutive Grammy Awards in the Best Jazz Vocal Performance for “Route 66” and “Why Not!” The Manhattan Transfer closed out the decade by completing a ten-year sweep as the “Best Vocal Group” in the DownBeat polls. Now in the new millennium with worldwide sales in the millions and Grammy Awards by the dozen, The Manhattan Transfer remains adventurous, limitless and as the Philadelphia Inquirer so aptly put it, “a group that still sounds dangerous!”

Recycle Mania 2015 (Multi-Day Event)
All Day

Recycle Mania,” engages students, faculty and staff across the nation through friendly-competition to achieve their state and nationwide initiative of promoting waste-reducing activities. From Feb. 1 to March 28, UWG will participate in Recycle Mania with a clear objective: encouraging our campus community to take a closer look at issues in conjunction with human consumerism and associated waste. Students have the opportunity to contribute ideas and take a step in the right direction to lessen humankind’s ecological footprint. Over this 8-week period, all participating colleges will report the amount of recycling and trash collected each consecutive week. The collected waste is then distributed in data for various categories, including who recycles the most per capita ”UWG division”, as well as which schools have the best recycling rate of total waste and which schools generate the least amount of combined trash and recycling.
